Communicating w. facebook

In a recent study conducted by University of Minnesota's Christine Greenhow, a learning technologies researcher from the College of Education and Human Development, students using social networking Web sites are practicing the 21st century skills needed to be successful in today's society.

As globalization has made international student recruitment ever more important, social media (also other than Facebook) and online marketing seems to be just right for getting your message across to prospective students far away.

What you share an item of news, link, image, video, or something else on Facebook, it is more than just a one way communication.  And more than a two way communication.  It is reminiscent of  a chat room that way, but a more static, asynchronous type of conversation.  Because when I share something, other people are going to comment on it.  At least that is part of the hope. And these comments will lead to other comments, and a sharing that expands to the friends of your friends on Facebook.

tijerinas-THESIS STATEMENT

People have hero's that they look up to. They look up to them for many reasons. They look up to them because they do good thing and want to help. A hero would be Justin Bieber because he gives money to charity, he goes to hospitals to visit sick kids, and he cares about his many fans.

Paragraph

Learning can serve my community to having kids learn and having jobs. It helps by kids wanting to make the world a better place by learning many things about what they want to do. My future projects can become better by working harder on them. I have learned that I try to do everything to fast and that I mess up and you can't understand what I was doing on things. I will try not to do this so projects in the future make sense. I feel that my final product was good i tried very hard on it and i think it came out very well to turn it in. I would give myself a 5 because my slideshow was good but it wasn't perfect. Also the slideshare wasn't working right and didn't let me put my slideshow like i wanted to. I only got the chance to put the pictures. What i would do differently in regards to my planning and execution would be that i would have put more examples and try to word my definitions differentlly. Also put special effects on it so it could look nicer than it is.

3 designs

DESIGN 1:
My slideshow will have the definition on every step of the design cycle, so they can understand what they have to do in each step.

DESIGN 2:
My slideshow will have pictures and the definition and it will teach them how to use the design cycle. It will help the 6th grades by showing them how it used and works.

DESIGN 3:
My slideshow will have examples of how it is used and definitions. It will help them by knowing what your supposed to do with it.

I'm going to pick design 2 because i think it will help the 6th grades understand better about what it is about and how they can use it.

Investigation Reflection

These last two weeks you have worked on your investigation process. Reflect and rate yourself using the rubric PLUS copy your response to QUIA.. Post with the subject INVESTIGATION REFLECTION. When you are finished continue with your 3 brainstorming designs

I give myself on the investigation process a 8 because i think i could have done it better. Also because i could have done more. I could have also token more time on what i was working on. Also because i was prepared on my paragraphs but could have wrote more if i needed to.

Design Brief

10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
I'm making a powerpoint. I'm going to be showing how to use the design cycle. I'm making this power point for the 6th graders to teach them about the design cycle.
Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
The requirements for this powerpoint is the simplicity so it can be simple and easy to understand.
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?
The limitations on this assignment is that I have a short time to finish the powerpoint.

POWERPOINT!!!

Measurement         1-10
Simplicity                8
Music                      7
Characteristics         10

On simplicity i give myself an 8 because I'm to put in my power point what the design cycle is and the information on it. I'm also going to put examples on what the steps do. I will also be putting the definition of the steps in the design cycle.  If you make a PowerPoint on Microsoft its easy because you have all the choices on there and you can edit it quickly.
On music I give myself an 7 because I'm going to put sounds. The sound was okay I'm going to put the sound louder so people can be able to hear it. The music was simple little noises. Its easy to put noises and you can even record yourself.
On characteristics i give my self a 10 because my power point is going to be creative. The power point will be colorful so it can be easy to see. I'm also going to be putting pictures so it can have images on it.You can add any pictures on it.

day 2 -investigation reflection

Today I researched flipbook on some websites.  These are the websites i found the information http://www.benettonplay.com/toys/flipbookdeluxe/index.php. I still have not decided which tool i will use to teach the design cycle to a 6th grader. Now i have to do a story board of how i will teach the design cycle.

Area of Interaction: Community and Service , Approaches to Learning & Human Ingenuity
Significant Concept: Design Cycle can be used to solve problems
Unit Question: How can my learning help my community? How do I make Sound Choices?
INVESTIGATE: (Write in complete sentences) Identify the Problem
1. What is the problem you need to solve? Explain to a 6th grader what the design cycle is all about by creating a presentation. (3d, PPT, movie, game, Poster)
2. How does the Design Cycle apply to the real world? It applys to the real world because it helps learn about how things are made and how they work.
3. How will this project serve my community? It will serve my community because it shows the process of creating how to do something.
4. How can my learning help my community? My learning helps my community because when I'm older I can get a job and be something.
5. How do we live in relation to each other? We live in relation to each other because we do most of the same things.
6. How does this help others? It helps others because it shows how to create something.
7. What are the requirements for this assignment? You have to identify the problem, acknowledge all your sources, you have to document things carefully, and a reflection about your investigation process.
8. What is the Design Cycle? The design cycle is when you create something.
REFLECT on your learning.
Day 2
9. Spend one day experimenting with DESIGN CYCLE your presentation. List five things your learned about the Design Cycle:
Day 3
Design Brief
10. Write a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it.
Formulate a Design Specification
11. What are the requirements for this assignment?
12. What are the limitations you have with this assignment?
13. How will you "test" your presentation?
REFLECT ON YOUR LEARNING
PLAN:
14. Brainstorm ideas. Use the chart below
IB Brainstorming Chart .pdf found in schoology under “materials”& then files
15. What idea did you choose to demonstrate the design cycle and why did you choose it?
16. Does your idea meet all of the requirements?
17. Use the story board paper below to plan your presentation.  Include how many levels you will have, what will be on each level, how will you include teaching skills to young students, and what will your questions be about.
story board.pdf found in schoology under “materials” & then files.
18. Explain how you will use your time to get your project finished in 12 days:
REFLECT on your learning
EVALUATE:
20. How could you improve your presentation?
21. Does your presentation meet all of the requirements?
22. Share your presentation with at least 2-8th, 3-9th, 4-10th+ friends. What did he/she like about your presentation?
23. Reflect on all the steps of the Design Cycle. What did you do well? What do you need to improve?
24. Were you responsible in using the software, Internet, pictures, and computer?
25. How can my learning help my community?
26. What grade do you deserve on this project? (1 - 6)

ATTITUDE:
27. Reflect on your attitude on each step of the Design Cycle. Did you completely answer each step without complaining, being a whiny baby, or saying "it's too hard". Explain your answer:
28. What grade do you deserve on your attitude? (1 - 6)
